It’s freakin’ algebraic! Adventure through The Land of Ooo with Finn and Jake in a quest to retrieve the kidnapped princesses. GlobalFun Games’ Adventure Time: Heroes of Ooo is a silly little treat for those who grin at the eponymous show’s barrage of absurdist wordplay humor.
Villains have stolen the four princesses away into dungeons both deep and dark. Fight Candy Monsters and other slithery beasts, collect pink gems, solve labyrinthine puzzles, and smash big rocks into little bitty pieces in order to get them back.
The best part of the game by far is the dialogue and general flavor; it’s just the same off-the-wall humor as in the series. For example, Jake hops into your backpack upon entering a dungeon, quipping that you’d best not open it since he needs to fart. A hint from the devs for beating the first level is that the giant hamburger’s weakness is its tomato. It’s goofy as can be, and incredibly charming.
Unfortunately, the controls are quite clumsy. The on-screen joystick just doesn’t respond like you’d hope, and as such gameplay can sometimes slow to a crawl as you attempt to maneuver around the simplest of obstacles. It’s too bad, because part of what makes the show great is the manic pacing – that aspect gets lost here due to sub-par controls.
Still, GlobalFun Games’ Adventure Time: Heroes of Ooo is definitely recommended for super-Princess Bubblegum fans. It’ll be good for a backseat play-through, at the very least.
The controls are a little hard at first but then you get used to it. I wish it had a sequel or something. The old school, pixelated style as well as the game tasks were charming.
